As you might know, today is my Birthday. Yes I turn 21 today and I am proud to present the ‘Swoosh Away’ theme for Wordpress. This is the first theme that I have made for people to download and it is free.
You can view a live demo at http://themes.angadsodhi.com
You can download the file from here.
Here’s a screenshot of the theme:

Creating this theme from scratch was fun. I have a few people to thank whose posts were very useful:
- New page menu function in WordPress 2.7
- Display your tweets without a plugin
- How to add a dynamic sidebar in Wordpress?
Theme properties:
- Widget-ready
- Fixed width
- W3 XHTML valid
- Designed with SEO in mind (eg <h1> appears just once on every page and that is the poast title)
- wordpress 2.7 ready (I presume it shouldn’t have problems with wordpress 2.8)
- Threaded comments (requires Brian’s Threaded Comments plugin included in download package)
The most difficult part was naming the theme! With thousands of WP themes already available, it has become so difficult naming them. I’ll be grateful if you can suggest me a better name.
Please let me know how you like the theme. Even if you don’t end up downloading the theme, please do let me know what you think about it. Comments and suggestions are always welcome! I’m coming back from a long layoff so please help me spread the word. Digg it or tweet it if you like it.
Psst: I plan to make many more themes before my next semester starts. If you like this theme, please subscribe to this blog. Expect a much better premium theme in the weeks to come!

Thanks for the mention.
Did you realise that WordPress 2.7 has its own threaded comments? To be truly “2.7 ready” it would be much better to use those rather than a plugin.
Nice work there..
Happy Belated Bday. The wordpress plugin looks great.
This might have a simple answer to it, but I know there are themes that Wordpress gives you to choose from for free. Is there any way that I could change the theme to one I found on a website without buying extra features?
Ideally I want to download a free theme that is suitable for a client, remove the links to the original author, edit the theme and then sell it on. But I don’t know if the themes on the wordpress website.
Ozone, since Wordpress is Open Source, you are legally allowed to do that. But if you do sell a free theme to your client with original author links removed, sure enough the client will write a post about his purchase. If his readers report that it is essentially a free theme slightly modified, it speaks badly for you. You will lose out on future potential customers. Just make sure you give it a complete overhaul and charge your client appropriately for the efforts you have put in.
I hope that answers your question.
Ozone — If you are using WordPress.com you cannot edit the themes without paying. If you are using WordPress dowloaded from WordPress.org on your own server then you can upload any theme you like.
Thanks for answering that one Kristarella. Honestly, I hadn’t understood the question at all!
simply best!! specially the header menu
Why not name your theme after yourself or create a “callsign” that you always use for the themes and other content you develop. If you plan ahead now and stick with the same naming scheme you will have greater name recognition down the road.
the theme is wonderful.
